Columbus versus Harvey (Round II)
Leftists object to the characterization of Christopher Columbus as a person who contributed to the end of slavery. For the hard Left, Western Civilization is the source of genocide against Native Americans and of slavery of Africans. What they lack is a knowledge of actual history. Their distorted view is based upon the ideas of political philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau. Rousseau gave us the hippie vision of an earth unfettered by civilization and populated by what he called "noble savages." These people lived in the "state of nature," untarnished by Western Civilization, Christianity, monogamy, or good manners. According to the Left, this heaven on earth was destroyed by the arrival of such evils as Christianity, private property and civil culture (i.e. caring about someone other than yourself).
Through the lenses of this absurd fairy tale, the Leftists judge Columbus. Their conclusion? In short, "It's all his fault!" Disregarding facts, they fail to realize that slavery and genocide, misogyny, war, etc. all existed PRIOR to Columbus stepping foot on the island of Hispaniola.

Leftists fail to acknowledge simple truth:
Obama's relatives did nothing to end slavery.
"Gays" did not free the slaves.
People with PIOLIN bumper stickers did not free the slaves.
These groups celebrate their conquests, victories, and heroes, all based on SELF interest. They fight for their particular group, not those outside of it.
Atheists didn't free slaves or end virgin sacrifices by the Aztecs and Mayas.

Only ONE group acted in the interests of others. Only one group sacrificed, bled, and died for those completely differently from themselves. They fought to civilize barbaric native cultures and to end un-Biblical slavery. Yes, the one group that can be openly mocked and characterized as akin to Nazis, the KKK, and the Manson family combined into one evil package.
What do William Wilberforce, Abraham Lincoln, and John Brown all have in common? They acted based on the Christian imperative.
Ah, but Harvey Milk. He is a great hero of the Left, lauded by educators and immortalized by Hollywood. He did not fight for the rights of any group outside his own narrow self-interests, but they say he accomplished so very much.
He was a homosexual.
