Santa vs. Satan? A Tale of Two Holidays

Once upon a time in a place called Los Angeles neighbors sought to outdo each other in their holiday decorations.

Lights were hung to maximum effect, and trees were trimmed with decorations.

Extensive displays were placed in windows, and doorways were adorned with explicit holiday greetings leaving no doubt that the day was to be heartily celebrated and its sentiments endorsed.

Neighborhood children participated in the holiday with a fervor unequaled.  They wanted the decorations to be great and even got dressed up for the very special occasion.  Christmas?

No, that is now relegated to a general "holiday" that comes in winter.  The holiday to which I refer is Halloween.

Sometime in the last decade, the amount Americans spend on Christmas has been surpassed by Halloween.

Why has the day of ghouls and skeletons passed the season of Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men"?

Christmas is "offensive," you see.  It is not seen as "inclusive" by the Liberal elites.

Severed heads and bloody carcasses on the front lawn have supplanted reindeer and Santa coming out of the chimney.

Ultimately, it is not a question of rejecting Saint Nicholas.  Santa Claus has been sent to the bench in the holiday game, that is true, but it is a rejection of the Christian culture that he was associated with that is the key.

They have not rejected Santa; they reject Jesus Christ and all He stands for.

Even the name "Christmas" is seen as somehow vulgar in culture that smirks at the curse words of Hip-Hop songs and emblazons them with pride on caps and tee shirts.

It can sadly be said of the United States as it rejects Christmas for Halloween, that God's word to Samuel when Israel wanted to be like the pagan cultures around them:

"..They have rejected Me as King"  (1 Samuel 8:7).

It seems our culture has embraced its new master with vigor
