Prediction: Del Rio to Replace Carroll
It now appears that Pete Carroll is departing USC to take over the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise.
This is a loss of enormous proportions for the USC family. The arrival of Pete Carroll as third choice a decade ago seems like yesterday. Many forget that his arrival was clouded by USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett firing former legend John Robinson via phone machine...at least Carroll gets to leave of his own volition.
The haunting question is who can replace the irreplaceable?
ELVISNIXON is going on record predicting that Jack Del Rio of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars will be the man to try and fill Pete's shoes.
Former Trojan Del Rio will be tapped to be the next former NFL head to move into the college ranks. Jeff Fisher of the Tennessee Titans is also a former Trojan and an excellent fit for SC (He even had traitor Norm Chow as his short-lived offensive coordinator.)
Fisher will not get the nod for two reasons 1) his Titans just made the greatest comeback in NFL history (in spite of missing this year's playoffs) and 2) Fisher wears an un-ironic 1978 mustache.
Remember, you heard it hear first:
Jack Del Rio

Jeff Fisher will not take that job with all of the Bush/McNight issues that are coming down the field towards the proud program!

Mustachio precludes Jeff Fisher.
False accusations against George and Reggie Bush, Joseph McKnight,, OJ Mayo and OJ Simpson are merely distractions created by bruins

O.K., you better be correct! Making a prediction like that.

Oh, I agree!
That is the fun of making such a BOLD prediction. The ability to say "I Told You So!"
Also requires the humility to admit when mistaken !

Mike Riley is the number one choice from what I have heard. He was the offensive coordinator under John Robinson and led us to a Rose Bowl Victory over Northwestern. he was also a head coach in Canada and won two Grey Cup Championships and he consistanly overachieves at Oregon State. he beat Pete twice with half the talent

How the mighty have fallen. I saw this coming my man. Too many issues in the athletic department and after a while where there is smoke there is usually a fire. Too bad, Carroll is a great coach for college and I do not think he will do well in Seattle or any NFL franchise. I give him 3 years in the NFL then he will be back in College and will cash in again and take over a program in need of restructuring. College sports is dirty business all around and it is not just USC. All the big ones cheat and many get away with it. How is it that John Calipari leaves two programs that he was responsible for in ruins and gets the Kentucky gig and a huge payday? It is wrong, but just like drugs in sports, it is now reality. It is all about the money and schools that make it to the BCS games make huge amounts of money for their schools and their conferences. Good old boys making deals. Sorry about your loss, feel bad for Barkley, but I think Mike Riley would be a good choice. Not so sure about Del Rio. Riley is a good offensive mind and you always want that stability. Take care, much love and two verses I have to guide me this year. "Be still and know that I am God." "Excel still more."

While Jack Del Rio will be heavily considered, the best coach for the job is Chris Petersen, the current head coach of Boise State. We knows west coast recruiting and obviously can out coach anyone. Last I checked he has won his last two BCS bowls and imagine what he could do with the kind of talent SC attracts- this guy would keep the SC train rolling while Del Rio might stop it in its tracks because of the transition from pro football to college football.

You make many valid points - however- you seem to forget that NFL head coach ( Jets, Patriots) Pete Carroll enjoyed incomparable success subsequent to his tenure in professional football. Which is preferable for the HUGE shoes of Pete Carroll? College coach to college coach or NFL coach down to college?
ALSO as regards the learned comments regarding Riley- "Ory Gun" state just signed him up for another lucrative contract.
I stand by my Del Rio prediction
