Labor Day Weekend; God or Government?

This Labor Day weekend it is a good idea to reflect on the value of labor, work and to express thanks for our abilities and occupations.

Government does not create wealth. Labor does.

The great Political Scientist Dr. Kuehnelt-Leddihn  gave us a profound principles to consider. Here are a few:

1. Our immensely complex universe can only be the result of either mere chance or a conscious design. We believe that it has an Originator as well as a Designer-- God.
2. Only to man can this world be meaningful in every respect: spiritually, morally, aesthetically, economically.
3. Only man is a transcendent creature. He realizes that, if there is a personal God, everything is possible, if there is no God, everything is permissible.
4. Every man or woman is truly a person and unique. No two persons are identical or equal, least of all in the eyes of God.
...6. Sameness and with it the dislike of otherness is the hallmark of leftism: it is an evil totalitarian instinct which fashioned the French, Russian and German revolutions with their gaols("jail"), guillotines, gallows, gas chambers and Gulags.

    Great post. Short and sweet.

The real question is not if there is a God or if He leans right, but just how far right?

      Thanks

      What do you think?

And by "right" and "far right" do you mean liberty, libertarian, anarchist or (as the leftist defines it) "fascist?"

Well, Fascist is actually left... correct? It's government control over industry whenever it sees fit.

So let's leave the Leftist out of this since they've brain damage to contend with.

But how far right is God? He gave us free will, leaves us to make our own decisions good or bad, and holds each of us responsible for our actions. That sounds pretty Libertarian to me.

And if you're a real hippy... to live together simply... just to exist, like John Lennon's "Imagine"... sounds a bit like an Anarchist!
        But we can argue that.

We can't argue how bigger government, regulations and a forced re-distribution of wealth is pro-God.

Perhaps through distorting religion, mis-interpreting it, as is the case with Sharia Law or other extremists, where the individual is absorbed into the collective...

Hey, maybe that's their shared connection?

          Excellent point

When speaking to actual conservatives I should remember that they know that fascists/nazis are cousins of communists ( the National socialist name may be a hint)

I tend to agree that minmal government is optimal- Augustine's City of God seems to have it right- government (in keeping with Romans 10-14) is essential as a result of The Fall.

"Anarchy" (no government) works only when the people are self governing. I think Tacitus said something about a moral people needing few laws..sadly Madison seems closer to the reality of 2010 when he remarks that if men where angels we would need no government but since we are to be governed by non-angelic beings we must limit their sphere of authority

The problem in our day is too much government and non-enforcement of the aws we already have on the books (immigration anyone?)

Reagan said it best:" government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem."

Yes on all points. Anarchy is, in theory a nice idea. It makes a nice song, not neighborhood. If people are sometimes evil, and people run government then government is sometimes evil, thus the best solution is to limit power to the smallest possible scope.
Regarding non-enforcement? They have to READ the bill to enforce it. (First we pass the bill to see what's in the bill.) As well as interpret it correctly. (14th Amendment for example.)
    Great blog!

    Hear hear on your points!
