Villaraigosa Continues Transforming Los Angeles into Tijuana

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles is requesting a variance from city by-laws to erect a six foot "security wall" around his mansion in Windsor Square.

Initially, Mayor Villaraigosa wanted to build an eight and a half foot wall to exclude unwanted intruders from his residence, but the Windsor Square Association shot down that proposal.

Villaraigosa is fine with Los Angeles being a sanctuary city and California being a sanctuary state. He just doesn't think the same rules should apply to the rich and powerful in his city.

This story conjurs up a mental image of the late Roman Empire where Roman aristocrats withdrew from public life and barricaded themselves into their private country estates and surrounded themselves with a private security force.

It is also a milestone in the slow descent of California into the cultural embrace of Latin America.

Are we losing our country? I think so.
