Independence Day 2011

This July Fourth ask yourself just what it is that Mr Obama and his pals are "celebrating"- Is it the same goal that our Founding Fathers sought to achieve or is it a leftist vision of the French,Russian or some other Revolution?:

"It is the low drive for sameness and the hatred of otherness that characterizes all forms of leftism, whichinevitably are totalitarian because, defying the divine diversity of the universe, these ideologies want to convert us by force to sameness -- sameness being the brother of equality. The leftist vision enjoins uniformity: the nation with one leader, one party, one race, one language, one class, one type of school, one law, one custom, one level of income, and so forth. Since nature provides diversity, this deadening sameness can be achieved only by brute force, by leveling, enforced assimilation, exile, genocide. All forms of totalitarianism, all leftist ideologies, reaching their culmination in the French, Russian, and German Revolutions, have gone that way -- with the aid of guillotine, gallows, gas chambers, and Gulag."

The Principles of The Portland Declaration; Erik Ritter von Kuehnelt-Leddihn (1909 - 1999)

Nice neat rows, everyone and everything aligned, in agreement and submission, variability pressed out, rank and file utterly reliable, followers to the bone, unified and homogenized, in complete accord in all matters and in all things. An ordered happy society in triumph.

    Or -

You see, according to Cocteau's plan, I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener.”

    I choose the latter.

      Wow.

I am startled by your vivid imagery and am curious as to what you are objecting to in the post.

I suspect that you are confusing the concept of "license" with that of "freedom"

I object to nothing! You might pick up that the lower quote is from the movie "Demolition Man" in which the leftist utopia has been achieved, where all is in order, people submissive and oh so happy-happy joy-joy. License? I'd rather license than the grey ordered existance of the Borg or San Angeles. Or of the dream of other good socialist societies, as you mention, of happy people happily smiling in their happy way for the happy leaders who, happily, lead them into happiness. Or else. Or not. I'd prefer Edgar Friendly to Raymond Cocteau any time. Merry fellow greetings, and be well! I'm going to Taco Bell!
